New Gorbals Housing Association

“New Gorbals has been able to reduce the time taken for year-end processing by 10 days.”

New Gorbals Housing Association was established in 1989 and operates in the Gorbals area of Glasgow. Until 1999 it managed mainly new-build properties, but as a result of stock transfers, it now manages a varied portfolio of around 5,000 units.

For over 12 years the Association used Kypera Housing integrated with Sage, but identified a need for a more advanced finance system, so implemented Kypera Financials. This system could be seamlessly integrated with Kypera Housing, speeding up transactions and eliminating duplication for greater efficiency. Users quickly adapted to the new system, finding it simple to use and the powerful facilities of Kypera XLR enabled much easier reporting.

New Gorbals are using Kypera Housing and Kypera Financials in a fully integrated configuration and performing management reporting through Kypera XLR.

Efficiencies achieved

Mary Reilly, Finance Manager at New Gorbals lists some of the major benefits of Kypera Financials:

• “Combined with Kypera XLR, New Gorbals has been able to reduce the time taken for year-end processing by ten days. The Cash Book module system makes it much easier to reconcile bank statements with the accounts, which is done instantly. When using the Sage system, New Gorbals had to run six weeks behind.”
  
• “Previously, everything with Sage was done on a month to month basis. To get anything done, you had to close down all your ledgers, so staff had to rush to complete transactions before moving onto the next month, which was a nightmare. With Kypera’s open ledger system, everything runs so much smoother as staff can work on the various ledgers simultaneously.”
  
• “Kypera Financials has eliminated manual cheque writing, as all cheques are system generated, but it has the added flexibility of being able to print sundry cheques, which saves us a lot of time.”
  

Kypera Housing v2.5

New Gorbals Housing Association upgraded to Kypera Housing version 2.5 in January 2011. Mary adds: “Our recent expansion doubled the amount of stock we now manage and Kypera Housing has coped with this effortlessly. Furthermore, the upgrade to version 2.5 was completed in five days and the new employees that we took on as part of the transfer were trained from scratch on all aspects of Kypera Housing within that period.”
